FORTY DAYS OF GREAT LENT–
40 Dana Velikog Posta
In some ways, Lent is the most famous of all the Christian seasons. Perhaps that is because of its many traditions or because it is so long. The six weeks of Lent take us from the end of winter to the beginning of Spring. Lent is a 40 day period of reflection and preparation for the Christian celebration of Easter.
Lent is not an unhappy time. But it is a serious time. Christians take the opportunity to think about how much the Gospel means to us and how well we live up to God’s call to love. We are taught to watch and pray and choose actions that help us become more prayerful, that help us to live more simply, and that teach us to share what we have with those in need. This is the purpose of Lenten sacrifice.
Fasting is a reminder of God’s goodness, the strength it takes to control human desires and our compassionate unity with the hungry people of the world.
As we today, gathered here in OUR HOLY CHURCH, dear brothers and sisters., let us forgive each other, sincerely, from the bottom of our hearts, for sins committed, and let us forget all offences and all the abuses that we often suffer. Made peace with our neighbor before God.
Now, my beloved brothers and sisters, through the practice of festing, the Church – and fasting is our obedience to the Church – invites us to liberate ourselves from our self-sufficiency and to offer the fruits of Lent – joy, meekness, peace, mercifulness- to those in need.
A Lenten Prayer;
Loving God, help me to make this Lent fruitful. May everything I do today begin with your inspiration, continue with your help, and reach perfection under your guidance. Amen
Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian
O Lord and Master of my life take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power and idle talk.
+(Prostration)
But give rather the spirit of Chastity, Humility, Patience, and Love to Thy servant.
+(Prostration)
Yea, O Lord and King grant me to see y own errors and not judge my brother; for Thou art Blessed unto the ages. Amen

Welcome
Welcome to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Serbian Orthodox Church. On behalf of the faithful of our parish, we are grateful that you are visiting our website. Our parish consists of faithful men, women and children seeking to live a life dedicated to Christ and His Church. This Church is the body of believing Orthodox Christians throughout the world, who share a common spiritual bond! By worshipping, witnessing, serving and socializing together, we seek to make Christ’s presence felt in our community, and to make God’s Kingdom real in our parish.
Our beloved parish was founded in 1952. Over the past 55 years, many dedicated priests and lay leaders have worked for the establishment of ministries and programs to assist the faithful in their journey to the Kingdom of God.
This web site allows us to reach people we may have never been able to contact before.
This parish was originally founded by a small group of Serbian immigrants, but today the churuch is comprised of over 200 families Serbs and family’s of different nationalities all witnessing to the Good News of Christ, striving to reflect His love, and living according to the principles and discipline of the Holy Orthodox Church
